Dancing Matrons

This new kirigami commission is for a beader who loves tea.   The outer edge represents different kinds of necklaces.  Inside are two dancing matrons clinking steaming teacups with furry cats at their feet, seemingly clueless. (Sorry, just couldn't get these cats to dance.)

I had a lot of fun making this one.

Sometimes, when I am unsure of how to cut a motif, I practice by cutting a simple mandala.  In this case, I tried to cut one of middle-aged women having tea.  I realized that I needed to make the women heftier in the combo cutting.  Here is my practice mandala:
