Creating a Logo 4: Researching What's Out There

Uniqueness and distinctiveness are important to the success of your logo. It would be a pity to do a lot of work creating an image and then find that it looks like everything else that's out there. So I always look online and in stores for companies with products similar to my client's. I spent a day searching google images and going to grocery stores and gourmet grocers to look at the cheese and dairy products. These are just a few that I liked.

What I found was that most cheese labels are round, simple and very similar. The ones shown above are more distinctive. All this research is background material for the next step: sketching.
