The Nativity

This painting of the Nativity of Jesus by Brian Kershisnik departs from the norm in delightful ways. A mob of onlookers gather around the mother and child. No angels or shepherds, just a sea of people floating by, suggesting to me the endless throng of humanity that will adore the Christ Child throughout time. Two midwives attend the new mother and Joseph looks rather put out by all the attention. There is a playfulness to this scene which I like. (You can click on the painting to make it larger.) Happy Christmas!
